From the start, many have asked how did we get into this business and where do we plan to go from here. Well the short answer is that it was somewhat by accident but now I can't imagine myself doing anything else. What originally began as a humble one location and 2 person staff has grown into a total of 3 locations employing 9 NP/PAs, 2 practice managers, 3 receptionists, 5 counselors, and several other ancillary staff members. Our reach now extends to serving the vast majority of Indiana although the bulk of our patients still come from central and northern Indiana such as Indianapolis and Fort Wayne. We don't plan to stop expanding and hope to be able to open locations in the southern half of the state to serve those hit hardest by the opioid epidemic which made national headlines a few years ago due to the HIV outbreak in Scott County caused from sharing dirty needles. There is still much work to be done and as long as there is a need we will never stop working towards curbing this epidemic.
Where Did The Name Lucina Come From?
This is also a common question that comes up and one that has an answer. Lucina was definitely not the original intended name which was going to be along the lines of something much more generic such as Addiction Treatment Center of Indiana. However, one night over a couple glasses of wine a close family friend suggested the name Lucina since she was the mythological Roman goddess of childbirth and giver of first light to newborns. The meaning seemed to fit what we were trying to accomplish so in the end that's what we ended up choosing. People often pronounce it Lou-sign-ah when it should be pronounced Lou-sin-ah. We recently changed the name to Lucina Treatment Centers of Indiana once we expanded to more than one location although Lucina Treatment Center is still commonly found on many of our promotional materials.
